Tapawingo Park - West Lafayette, IN
Tapawingo Park in West Lafayette is located next to the Riverside Skating Center at 100 Tapawingo Drive. The park sits on about 20 acres of land and is walking distance to Wabash Landing 9 Movie Theater, Buffalo Wild Wings, Puccini's Pizza Pasta, Nine Irish Brothers, and many other places in West Lafayette and Downtown Lafayette.
Features - Tapawingo Park features a playground area with multiple slides, a swing set, park benches, and trails that walk along the Wabash River. As mentioned above it is also home to the Riverside Skating Center! The Riverside Skating Center is an ice skating rink that is typically open from Late November to Early March. The center has a food and drink vending area, lockers for rent, and public restrooms. It is a good sized rink (120'x70') and is oval in shape. Find out more about the Riverside Skating Center.
History - The park has been open since the summer of 1973 when 5 acres of land was donated by Sears Roebuck and Company. At the time Sears Roebuck and Co. was located directly to the west of the park.
"Tapawingo" is a phrase used by the Miami Indians which means "Place of Joy".
